are still present and perhaps the most visible parts of the first light (the scale of the eggs, I think, that it takes longer to decomposition). But soil is also fragrant (it was due to the smell of bay leaves and branches are added to kitchen waste).
How it works?
I used a plastic container, plenty of holes on the bottom and sides. The central part of the lid was opened and replaced with a piece of mosquito net (can be seen in the photo next to the container), since it must pass the air, but should not enter insects. It is absolutely essential to the saucer, because after about fifteen twenty days, beginning the production of liquid (which may be collected and used as fertilizer concentrate).
I collected separately food scraps (except meat, cheese, cereals and cooked all the leftovers), allowed to rest for a few days in a paper bag, then placed in the container alternated with woody-type material (dry leaves, but in my case, in the absence of these, especially the bread paper or cardboard). The presence and integration with this type of material is important, especially at the stage of starting the production of liquid, which is absorbed by the material Carbognano. I've added to start the process a small amount of mature compost, used as odor filter on the cover. This is how my second container, which began Aug. 13, about a week after the start of the collection: Open
and closed
And so it has now, after nearly six months.
Some tips:
There is certainly a step in the process, one that follows the exciting initial warm up of natural material and characterized by the production of liquid and moisture, which requires some care: we must constantly add paper and turn the mixture frequently (well, at least one once a day), so that the ventilation is guaranteed. This prevents the production of unpleasant odors. In this phase, the compound has a smell, let's say, distinctive, but that has nothing to do with the garbage in landfills or in bins, and that you feel especially when handling and revolt, but that does not give any trouble (my whole compound was produced in, because my apartment has no outdoor space of any kind).
As I mentioned in a previous post, now I collect the moisture for the collection started in my town hall, but I'm going, maybe from the spring to resume the production of compound home however, is to decrease the amount of waste products that require a soil to be used (or give).
And you want to put the satisfaction of being almost zero impact with regard to the most dangerous and difficult to manage waste, organic material? Landfill leachate is transformed into the terrible, causes pollution and bad smells. If organic matter is handled properly, valuable and reusable. It 's so hard to bring this vicious circle of waste to its natural virtuous cycle?
