Martine Aubry, 58, mayor of Lille from 2001, is the new first secretary of the French Socialist Party. The Aubry, who is the daughter of Jacques Delors, 1997 to 2000 was Minister of Labour in the government of Lionel Jospin. The Aubry won the runoff with Ségolène Royal, following the stalemate at the end of the recent 75th Congress of the PSF, getting just 42 votes to scrap the 50.02% of the votes against 49.98% of the former candidate for 'Elisha, when he was defeated by Nicholas Sarkozy.
